Looker Studio alternative for agencies: keep the tool, change who runs it
If you search for a Looker Studio alternative for agencies, first ask what is wrong: the tool, or the work around it. If your team likes building dashboards and has time to check them, keep Google Data Studio (the new name for Looker Studio) and run it yourself. If the problem is broken data connections, numbers nobody checks and hours spent building and fixing reports, a managed service like reportfor.agency takes that work off your team and can still deliver your dashboards in Data Studio.
First: Looker Studio is now called Data Studio again
In April 2026, Google changed the name of Looker Studio back to Data Studio. Google's own documentation says: "In April 2026, the Looker Studio product name returned to its original name: Data Studio" (Google Cloud docs, checked 6 Oct 2026). PPC Land reports the change on April 11, 2026, and notes that existing reports moved over with no action needed. So when this page says "Data Studio", it means the same product you know as Looker Studio. Your reports, links and data sources did not change.
This matters for your search. Many "alternative" lists still compare other tools against "Looker Studio". The product is the same. The question is still the same too: is the tool the problem, or is the work around the tool the problem?
What Data Studio does well
We often build client dashboards in Data Studio, because the tool is good at its job:
- The core tool has no cost. Google describes Data Studio as available at no charge for creators and report viewers (Data Studio page, checked 20 Oct 2026).
- It connects to Google sources directly. Google lists Google Sheets, Google Ads, BigQuery and Google Analytics among its direct sources, and says there are over 1,300 Community Connectors (same page).
- Your clients already know it. A link to a Data Studio dashboard opens in a browser. Nobody needs a new login to a new platform.
- You own the files. The dashboards live in your Google account. If you change vendors, they stay with you.
So for most agencies, a new dashboard tool is not the fix. The pain is usually in three other places.
Where the time really goes
Connections that stop
Data for Meta, LinkedIn or TikTok usually comes through a paid partner connector. A login expires, an ad account changes, a field is renamed. The chart shows blanks or old numbers, and often nobody sees it until a client asks.
Numbers nobody checks
A dashboard shows what the data source sends. It does not compare its totals with Google Ads or Meta and tell you when they differ. Someone on your team must do that check by hand, for every client.
Building and keeping reports
Each new client needs data sources, a template, filters, brand colors and fixes. Then someone still has to read the dashboard, find the story and write the client update.
A different tool can make some of this easier. But every tool still needs a person to connect it, check it and explain it. That is the work we take over.

When Data Studio on its own is the better choice
- You have fewer than 5 clients. Our minimum is 5 clients. For a small book, free Data Studio and one connector plan can be enough.
- Someone on your team enjoys building dashboards and has the time. If a person already owns reporting and does it well, a service adds less value.
- Your clients only use Google sources. Google Ads, GA4 and Search Console connect directly with no connector fee. That keeps the setup simple.
- You want full control of every chart, every day. With your own build, you can change anything at any time without a request.
- You do not need written updates. If your clients only want a live dashboard and never ask "why", the tool alone may cover it.
When a managed service is the better choice
A managed service makes sense when the tool is fine but the people time is not. Look for these signs:
- Your account managers build reports late in the evening instead of working on campaigns.
- A client has found a blank chart or a wrong number before your team did.
- You have 10, 20 or more clients, and each one has a slightly different dashboard that only one person understands.
- You want a weekly written update, not only a dashboard link.
- You cannot justify a hire. A data engineer and an analyst cost about $190,000 per year in US base pay (US Bureau of Labor Statistics medians, May 2024: data scientists, market research analysts).
With reportfor.agency, our team builds and runs it. Code calculates every number. AI drafts the words, never the numbers. An analyst checks every report. Your account manager approves and sends it. We never contact your clients. Read more on our white-label reporting service page.
Cost example: 20 clients
Here is a simple example for an agency with 20 clients that run Google Ads, Meta and GA4.
Data Studio, run in-house
$0 tool + connectorsThe tool is free. For Meta data you need a partner connector. Supermetrics lists Growth at $159/month billed yearly or $199/month billed monthly, with 7 data sources and 7 accounts per data source (pricing page, checked 20 Oct 2026). 20 clients means 20 Meta accounts, so you buy more accounts or ask about Enterprise (custom price). Your team still builds the dashboards, checks the numbers and writes every update.
reportfor.agency
$1,980 /month20 clients × $99, plus $997 one-time setup. Includes the dashboards, daily checks, weekly written report, monthly PDF and Slack alerts. We run the data connectors as part of the service. Your team reviews and sends, which usually takes under 1 hour per client per month.
The tool line is cheap. The real cost is the hours your team spends on it. Count them for one month before you decide. See full pricing at our pricing section.
Using Data Studio and reportfor.agency together
You do not have to leave Data Studio. Here is how a move works:
- Day 1–2: connect. You give read-only access. We cannot change campaigns, budgets or settings. We sign an NDA and DPA first.
- Day 3–7: first report. We build the data pipe into your own cloud account, usually a BigQuery project. Your first report arrives within 7 days of access, or your setup fee comes back.
- Day 8–12: brand and tune. We apply your logo and colors and adjust the views to how your team works.
- Day 14: go live. Live in 14 days for up to 20 clients.
Your old dashboards still work while we build. If you leave later, you keep the data, dashboards and documentation. The dashboards keep updating if you take over the connector subscription, and we help you move it.
Questions about Looker Studio alternatives
Is Looker Studio the same as Google Data Studio?
Yes. Google renamed Looker Studio back to Data Studio in April 2026, per Google's documentation. Existing reports moved over with no action needed.
Do I need to stop using Data Studio to work with you?
No. We can build your client dashboards in Data Studio, with your logo and colors. We change who runs the reporting, not the tool your clients see.
Who pays for the data connectors?
We use connectors such as Supermetrics, Windsor.ai and Coupler.io to move data into BigQuery as part of the service. If you cancel, the dashboards keep updating only if you take over the connector subscription. We help you move it.
Can you work with dashboards we already built?
Yes, we can work with them. A tool shows the data, but someone still has to keep it correct, find the story and write the update. We take over that work.
What if a number is wrong?
We compare totals with Google Ads, Meta, GA4 and other sources on a fixed schedule. If your client finds a wrong number for a finished day before we flag it, that client's month is free. Recent "provisional" days are excluded.
Can I test this before I commit?
Yes. Try the free demo with one campaign CSV export; it runs in your browser and does not upload your data. Or start a pilot: 1 client, $199 setup plus $99 for the first month. The $199 is credited to the setup fee if you continue.
