A marketing report template is a fixed layout you fill in every period, so each report has the same sections in the same order. A good one starts with a three-sentence summary, shows results against goals, explains the biggest changes and ends with next actions. Below you get a monthly template, a weekly template and a PPC template, with a CSV you can open in any spreadsheet.

What goes in a monthly marketing report?

A monthly marketing report holds a short summary, the client's goals with results next to them, one section per channel, the reasons for the biggest changes, the work done, the plan for next month and a note on data quality. Keep the summary to the top of page 1. Each other section can be a table of a few rows. The table below is the full monthly layout.

#SectionWhat to put in it
1Summary3 sentences: result against goal, main reason, next step.
2Goals and resultsA table with the metric, this month, last month, change and goal. Use the client's business metrics: leads, sales, cost per lead, return on ad spend.
3Channel sectionsOne short block per channel you run (paid search, paid social, SEO, email). Two or three numbers and one sentence each.
4What changed and whyThe two or three biggest moves up or down. Each has the metric, the campaign or page, the cause and the action.
5Work doneWhat you shipped this month, one line each.
6Plan for next monthThree actions with an owner and a date. The client can approve or change them.
7Data notesThe source of each number, the attribution setting, and which days are provisional.

Fill in the goals table like this. The brackets mean "your number". We do not show sample figures, so no number here can be mistaken for a real result.

What is a good marketing report format?

A good format is short, visual and the same every time. Put a one-page summary first and the detail after it. In the AgencyAnalytics 2026 benchmark survey of 494 agency professionals, 84% said clients value clear visual data representation, and 31% said clients value a predictable reporting frequency (AgencyAnalytics, Feb to Apr 2026, a software vendor's survey). The same survey shows clients split on how they want to receive data: 35% prefer static reports such as PDFs or slide decks, 35% prefer one-to-one calls and 27% prefer live dashboards. So send a PDF or link, offer a call, and keep a dashboard for those who like it.

Weekly marketing report template

A weekly update is shorter than the monthly report. It says what changed since last week and what you will do about it. Five lines are enough.

  1. Headline. "[Metric] is [up/down/flat] [X%] against last week."
  2. Key numbers. Three metrics: leads or conversions, cost per lead or cost per conversion, spend.
  3. What changed. One campaign or page that moved, with the reason.
  4. Action. What you will do this week, and who does it.
  5. Data note. The last finished day in the report. Newer days are provisional.

Where can I get a PPC report template?

Use the table below for a PPC report. It works for Google Ads, Meta and LinkedIn. Fill one row per platform and add a total. Pick one source for each metric and keep it the same each month.

PlatformSpendConversionsCost per conversionROASChange vs last periodNote (reason, action)
Google Ads[ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ]
Meta[ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ]
LinkedIn[ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ]
Total[ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ]

Take care with conversions. Google Ads reports a conversion on the date of the ad click, not the date of the sale, and its default click-through conversion window is 30 days (Google Ads Help, Google Ads Help). Meta's default attribution is 7-day click, 1-day engage-through and 1-day view, and since March 2026 only link clicks count as click-through (Jon Loomer, 2026). That is why last week's number can change after you send it. Mark recent days as provisional. Our pay per click reporting page has a worked weekly PPC example and the checks we run on every account.

How do I send a report to a client?

Send it on the same day each period, with the summary in the email body, and attach the report or link to it. Do not make the client open a file to learn the result. A short email you can adapt:

Subject: [Client] marketing report, [month]
Hi [name], here is the [month] report. In short: [result against goal]. The main reason is [reason]. Next we will [action] by [date]. The full report is attached and the live dashboard is here: [link]. Do you want a call to go through it?

Check the report before you press send: the date range, the last finished day, and every number that moved more than 20%.

Do not want to fill this in every month?

We build and check these reports for you. Each client gets a live dashboard in Data Studio (formerly Looker Studio), a written report every Monday and a one-page monthly review. Code calculates every number, AI drafts the words, an analyst checks every report and you approve it. Price: $99 per client per month plus a $997 one-time setup, minimum 5 clients, with up to 4 ad platforms per client and GA4 and Search Console included. First report within 7 days of access, or your setup fee back. See also client reporting for agencies and the SEO client report template.

Questions about marketing report templates

What is the best marketing report template?

The best template is the one with the same sections each period, a summary on top and a reason next to every number that moved. The layouts on this page follow that rule. Adapt the channels to what you run for the client.

How long should a marketing report be?

One page for the summary and goals, plus a few pages of detail at most. A client who needs 20 pages to find the result will stop reading. Put extra detail in a live dashboard.

Should I send a PDF or a dashboard link?

Offer both. In the AgencyAnalytics 2026 survey, 35% of respondents said clients prefer static reports, 35% prefer calls and 27% prefer live dashboards. Send the report as a PDF and share the dashboard for those who want to look themselves.

Which metrics belong in a marketing report?

Start from the client's goal: leads, sales, cost per lead or return on ad spend. Add spend, and only the extra numbers needed to explain a change. Clicks and impressions are supporting numbers, not the headline.

Can I use these templates for free?

Yes. Copy the tables or download the CSV for your own clients. You do not need to share your email address.

What does reportfor.agency cost?

$99 per client per month plus a $997 one-time setup per agency, with a minimum of 5 clients. A pilot with one client costs $199 setup plus $99 for the first month, credited to the setup fee if you continue. Cancel any time with 30 days' notice.
